Project Summary

Greenspire Middle School is located in Traverse City, Michigan, a small, coastal town situated between two Lake Michigan bays. During the 2014–15 school year, sixth- through eighth-grade students at the Greenspire School dedicated themselves to protecting Kids Creek, a local stream that was put on the state’s impaired waters list. This list identifies Michigan water bodies that are not attaining one or more designated uses—in this case, for aquatic life and wildlife.

This project was supported by the Grand Traverse Stewardship Initiative, one of nine regional hubs that comprise the Great Lakes Stewardship Initiative.
